Compre

Mentor reminding me about comprehensive exams: Mag-compre ka ha, sa September.
Me: Sir, sabay? Both major and minor?
Mentor: Oo.
Me: Sir, uhm, sabay?
Mentor: Pwedeng one-week apart.
._. ganito pala yung pinasok ko ._.

Mababa ang tingin ko sa mga kumukuha ng mga easy-A profs.  Just saying. You do not go to college to get A’s. You go to Ateneo to learn. And most of the time, generally, the easy-A profs do not force you to go beyond yourselves, to move out of your comfort zones…you do not grow. You learn in the painful experience of challenge; you achieve fulfillment in succeeding over a difficulty. Mas sulit ang tuition sa mahihirap na prof.

Lundag lang ng lundag.

I find this rather amusing.

Today,

instead of studying nanoparticle synthesis procedures for thesis, I started thinking about what a good MA Philo thesis would be;

instead of reading a volume of texts on philosophy, I played the role of the old man in the game Gold Miner for THREE hours;

instead of writing that attempt at creative non-fiction (or non-creative fiction?), I aimlessly scrolled down through Tumblr;

instead of entertaining poems lined-up for revision, I followed the tale of friendship, betrayal, and revenge in the movie Puss in Boots;

instead of cutting down on food, I gave in to the allure of the best home-cooked meals in the world (at home).

Sigh.

Sundays.

As the educational system is revamped, I would like to spearhead a revolution on the method how we teach our children. I believe that reforming the system vis-a-vis the continuous improvement of school facilities will not be enough to truly revolutionize the whole educational program in the Philippines if the pedagogical methodology at hand is not considered.

From elementary to most colleges, pedagogy consists of dictation, reception, and recall of facts. A student is expected to memorize concepts and equations, nothing more, in order to pass. In an age when information is a few keystrokes away, this system is plain useless. As we are continuously bomba rded with information, one’s supposed ‘knowledge’ is easily made obsolete.

I envision a revolution that will change this facts-based pedagogy to a thinking-centered one. Teachers should be able to encourage students how to think critically – how to understand, evaluate, apply, derive insight from and even critique the facts. The facts are there as mere tools for the critical thinking training of the student’s mind only. Teachers should encourage students to go beyond mere reception to the actual evaluation and advancement of ideas.

Education will be more relevant to life as a student is not armed with information only when he/she goes out of the classroom but with the skills to face each new experience also. Learning goes beyond the classroom and each new experience is a learning experience. Only then will true human development proceed, and as a consequence, progressive national development also.

Erotisismo ng salita at imahen

What is pride?

What do I mean when I say I’m proud of you? How do I say I am proud of you? What do I feel when I feel pride for you?

I am proud of you most often when you have achieved something or when you are working for something. Why? Because I believe that what you have achieved is great, and what you do is great. I would even say that I do also covet those things you have achieved. Nakaka-inggit. I would also do all my best, put all my effort to, to achieve such recognition as you have. I envy you for having such things.
